  • Assassins (Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas) - another one from the vhs pile...
  • Giant (Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean) - I pulled this out from my old vhs collection; it never seems to get old...
  • Eragon - I watched this after reading the book. It was pretty good, though, as always, after reading the book before seeing the movie I was a little disappointed...
  • Batman - The Dark Knight (Christian Bale, Heath Ledger) - there was a lot of hype around this one. I enjoyed it. Heath Ledger did do an amazing job with his role in this movie...
  • Burn After Reading (Frances McDormand, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malcovich) - I was looking forward to this - I thought it was awfully good. The Brad Pitt character was hilarious!...
  • Hancock (Will Smith) - this wasn't quite what I expected, but it was still good...
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skulls - okay, the "powers-that-be" should have left Indiana Jones in retirement. Though it's pretty graphic, I agree with the creators of South Park (you seen this episode?) - they raped Indiana...
  • Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr) - I was really looking forward to this - it didn't disappoint! After some quick online research, it appears there's gonna be a sequel (or two)! And it also appears there will be more Marvel comic movies to come - I'm excited about this (okay, so I was a comic-book nerd growing up; heck, I was still reading them 'til probably 7-8 yrs ago)...
  • The Phantom of the Opera - I pulled this out from "the collection" and watched it again; though I don't normally enjoy musicals in the least, I really enjoy this movie...
  • The Civilization of Maxwell Bright - okay, I had to watch this one twice - and not because I thought it was great. My first time out the opening scene kind of shell-shocked me; I didn't pay much attention to the rest of the movie after that. A couple of nights later I decided to give it another try; turned out this was a fairly interesting movie...
  • 21 - This was good. Makes me wonder if I could count cards...
  • Turn the River - I enjoyed this; I'm sure it wouldn't appeal to a broad audience. There aren't many movies set around a poolroom...
  • In the Name of the King - this was pretty good; I did think Ray Liotta was mis-cast pretty badly...
  • The Bank Job (Jason Statham) - I really enjoyed this. I found it interesting to note that it was based on a true story...
  • The Ruins - this was about as good as I expected it to be - not very...
  • 10,000 BC - this was alright. It had some great effects, but the story left something to be desired. It starred Camilla Belle which made it worth watching for me (she's gorgeous)...
  • Vantage Point (Dennis Quaid) - this was good; an interesting treatment for a movie...
  • Walker (Woody Harrellson, Kristen Scott-Thomas) - I enjoyed this; it had some excellent acting. Sort of reminded me of American Gigolo...
  • The Eye (Jessica Alba) - well, at least it had Jessica Alba...
  • The Bucket List (Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson) - I enjoyed this, though for some reason I was expecting something a little lighter...
  • Bring It On 3, In It to Win It - not something I'd normally watch. I've got a cousin (who I've never met) that appeared in this (a very small part), and I thought I'd try to pick her out...
  • The Other Boleyn Girl (Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson) - I thought this was very good. I had to research the story after watching it; interesting...
  • Jumper (Hayden Christiansen, Samuel L Jackson) - this was awesome!...
  • The Air I Breathe (Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser, Andy Garcia, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Bacon, others) - I was intrigued by the box for this one while browsing the video store; it has quite a line-up of stars. This was one of those that I call interesting...
  • National Treasure - Book of Secrets - I was expecting a little more from this, though I did enjoy it (except for the City of Gold buried under Mount Rushmore scenario)...
  • Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) - I thought this was really good (though a little gory)...
  • To Kill A King - something else that made me realize how little I know about history...
  • Untraceable (Diane Lane) - pretty cool; lot of high-tech web stuff (wonder how much of it's true?)...
  • Lions for Lambs (Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise) - for some reason this seemed to kind of parallel the previous movie I watched; I enjoyed it, though about the time I thought it was starting to get going pretty good, the credits started to roll - what's up with these under 1 1/2 hr movies lately?...
  • Charlie Wilson's War (Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman) - I enjoyed this; it made me realize how little I understand about world politics and events (I don't think I'll ever understand it)...
  • Reservation Road - I enjoyed this; one of those movies that stirs emotion...
  • Cloverfield - this was pretty cool (a little annoying until it got rolling); it ended pretty quick though...
  • I Am Legend (Will Smith) - I enjoyed this. I wasn't wild about the "zombie-like" scenario, but otherwise it was great...
  • There Will Be Blood (Daniel Day-Lewis) - there will be blood - and yawns. This to me was another one of those movies that just didn't translate somehow...
  • Things We Lost In the Fire (Halle Berry, Benecio Del Toro) - definitely a slow-mover, but I enjoyed it anyway...
  • Atonement - sort of another version of The English Patient; only fair to me...
  • No Country for Old Men - I really enjoyed this, though it was a bit different also. My take - sort of a battle of wits between the two lead characters...
  • Beowulf - this was...different
  • Dan In Real Life (Steve Carrey) - I only thought this was fair; the story itself was good. Any movie made in the New England area during the winter just seems depressing to me...
  • The Buddy Holly Story (Gary Busey) - this was an older movie (made 1978, I believe), but I only just now decided to watch it - on television. I think I avoided it because I would have never believed Gary Busey could have done such a good job of portraying Buddy Holly. I thought this was excellent. Now I've got to find some Buddy Holly music - think I'll buy a cd collection from eBay...
  • Michael Clayton (George Clooney) - I thought this was good...
  • The Final Inquiry - this one was kinda interesting. It could have been much better (the acting was definitely below par); it was a very good story...
  • We Own the Night (Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg) - fair...
  • The Brave One (Jodi Foster, Terrence Howard) - I thought this was awfully good (it could have done without the "gratuitous sex scene"; I don't see what it did for the movie) - one of those movies about something...
  • Elizabeth (Cate Blanchette) - fair; I expected a good bit more somehow...
  • The Heartbreak Kid (Ben Stiller) - I can usually "identify" with Ben Stiller's romantic comedies; this one was okay, not great...
  • Shoot 'Em Up (Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, Monica Belucci) - this was some crazy sh*t!...
  • Harry Potter, the Order of the Phoenix - yeah, I watch these...
  • Death Sentence (Kevin Bacon) - I thought this was really good; it probably isn't far off the mark for the times today. Kevin Bacon is another incredibly-gifted actor...
  • He Was A Quiet Man (Christian Slater, Elisha Cuthbert) - I thought this was pretty good (thought it would be better); I'm still not sure if the majority of the movie was a "dream sequence" or not. Christian Slater is an incredible actor...
  • Balls of Fury - I didn't really know what to expect from this; it wasn't very good at all...
  • Rush Hour 3 (Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker) - this was okay, definitely not great...
  • 3:10 to Yuma (Russell Crowe, Christian Bale) - this was pretty good, though I did find myself nearly shouting "Just shoot him!" as I watched it...
  • The Astronaut Farmer (Billy Bob Thornton, Virginia Madsen) - I really enjoyed this. I kinda got a "knot in the throat" once "Farmer" got to lift-off...
  • War (Jet Li, Jason Statham) - fair, not great (to me). And I thought Jet Li "retired"?...
  • Eastern Promises (Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen) - this wasn't as good as I thought it'd be - a very good story, though...
  • Stardust - I thought I'd enjoy this; I only found it mediocre...
  • The Bourne Ultimatum - really good! I'll buy this one (once some "previously-viewed" copies become available at the video store)...
  • Superbad - bad-ass!...
  • Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End (Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom) - incredible! This was good - gonna have to buy it!...
  • Angel-A - This was alright; I would've probably enjoyed it a lot more if it would have been in English (as it was it was a French movie with English subtitles)...
  • Heavens Fall (Timothy Hutton) - a good movie; based on a true story it said. And if it was accurate, it was sad - looks like several young men were wrongfully convicted of a serious crime...
  • Live Free or Die Hard (Bruce Willis) - excellent action movie. Not my usual fare, but good none-the-less...
  • Flywheel - this was the first movie produced by the folks who did "Facing the Giants". This was another really good movie - powerful. Please watch it if you haven't already...
  • I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Jessica Biel) - well, the Jessica Biel parts were good...
  • Planet Terror (Rose McGowan, Bruce Willis) - I take it this was the "other half" of the Grindhouse double-feature release from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriquez; I definitely enjoyed Death Proof a lot more, though this was fair...
  • Mr Brooks (Kevin Costner) - I thought this was good. It was something different for Kevin Costner, but I thought he did a good job with it. The "almost-twist" at the end was unexpected...
  • Reign Over Me (Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle) - I really enjoyed this one! My kind of movie; it was actually about something, there was a story there. Y'know, at the beginning of his career, I really didn't care for Adam Sandler, but he can really do a good job with the right stuff; and Don Cheadle is one of the best actors of the decade (probably even the century)...
  • 1408 (John Cusack, Samuel L Jackson) - wild...
  • Pollock (Ed Harris, Marcia Gay Harden) - a movie about the life of an American painter; nice, simple and well-enacted...
  • Seraphim Falls (Pierce Brosnan, Liam Neeson) - pretty decent, though a little strange at the end...
  • Next (Nicolas Cage, Julienne Moore, Jessica Biel) - this was kinda interesting, though it was tough for me to "wrap my head around the idea"...
  • Fantastic Four 2 - Rise of the Silver Surfer - I was really looking forward to this; I was a big Silver Surfer comic fan. I enjoyed this one a lot, though I thought it could have been a good bit longer (the Silver Surfer character could have been explored a good bit more). My only critique - I don't think the Silver Surfer's power came from his board (though I haven't followed the comic in quite a while)...
  • In A Dark Place (LeeLee Sobieski)
  • Death Proof (Kurt Russell) - loved this! So far Quentin Tarantino is battin' 1000 with me; I've enjoyed all of his stuff (that I've seen). After watching this I've determined that I've got to find myself another '70 Dodge Challenger...
  • Perfect Stranger (Halle Berry, Bruce Willis) - fair, pretty suspenseful...
  • Kickin' It Old Skool (Jamie Kennedy) - I thought this was hilarious! When I read the synopsis on the dvd cover I thought it couldn't miss, "It's 1986, when greed is good, leg warmers are great, and break dancing is the greatest! But, right in the middle of a break dancing contest, Justin Schumacher (Jamie Kennedy) hits his head so hard he winds up in a coma! When he wakes up 20 years later, his poodle haircut is out of style, the woman of his dreams is engaged to his worst rival, an his parents are drowning in his medical bills. Now Justin must jump-start his break dancing career in order to regain a normal life - and his girlfriend. So whether you miss the '80s or missed the '80s, here's your chance to fall on the floor laughing - and bust a move while you're down there!" But hey, I live in the '80s without the benefit of having been in a coma for 20 years!
  • The Contract (Morgan Freeman, John Cusack) - pretty decent; two of my favorite actors...
  • The Aviator (Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, James C Riley) - I had to watch this again after reading a Howard Hughes biography (see "My Interests - Reading" page)...
  • The Marsh (Gabrielle Anwar, Forrest Whitaker) - decent; a little scarier than I expected...
  • Last Time (Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser) - I didn't expect much from this - it lived up to my expectation...
  • 300 - I thought this was really good! I suspect this movie will have a big influence on movies to come...
  • The Good German (George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, Toby McGuire) - okay, not great. I got an idea of what this movie was supposed to be, but I don't think it made it...
  • Pathfinder - this was okay. I got the idea that (though I haven't seen it yet) this was sort of a "300" knock-off...
  • The Number 23 (Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen) - another one that falls under the "interesting" category - well-done, I thought...
  • Black Snake Moan (Samuel L Jackson, Christina Ricci) - yeah, I know...  I actually think there was more to this one...
  • Pan's Labyrinth - I actually enjoyed this (probably one of the few who did)...
  • Shooter (Mark Wahlberg) - new arrival "pickin's were slim" at the video store, hence I rented this - it was okay, definitely not great...
  • Breach (Chris Cooper, Ryan Phillippe, Laura Linney) - this was pretty good...
  • Apocalypto - I really enjoyed this. Kind of like "Running Man" set during the Maya time period...
  • The Fountain (Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz) - Okay, I'm sure there was a story in here somewhere, but I'm at a loss for finding it. This one was out there...
  • Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes) - I've gotta say that I was really looking forward to this one - I was a big Ghost Rider comic fan when I was young. It was a really tragic and romantic story (at least in the early issues). I thought the movie was fairly well done. It had some incredible visual effects...
  • The Pursuit of Happyness (Will Smith) - this was good; another movie based on a true story...
  • Little Children (Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Connelly) - this was...different. I enjoyed it, but it was a little like "American Beauty"; sort of a story about everyday life and overcoming the boredom associated with it (that's my take, anyway)...
  • The Painted Veil (Naomi Watts, Edward Norton) - I enjoyed this - kind of couple falls in love after the marriage; it was definitely one of the most beautifully-filmed movies in a while...
  • Rocky Balboa (written/directed/starring Sylvester Stallone) - although I never did hear much about this one when it came out, I thought it was really good. A very good story, very good acting...
  • Deja Vu (Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer) - I really enjoyed this; sort of a drama with some sci-fi thrown in...
  • Casino Royale (Daniel Craig) - just now watched this; I thought it was very good. I think this guy will make a cool new "Bond"...
  • Children of Men (Clive Owen) - I noticed that this movie was compared to Blade Runner during its advertising - how dare they! It was a good story, but once again the "translation" just didn't come across - kind of like a pot of stew with no flavor...
  • Blood Diamond (Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Housou, Jennifer Connelly) - this was good, pretty powerful. Leonardo DiCaprio is turning into quite a good actor...
  • The New World (Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer) - this one's been out for a good while. I don't see how this one got approved for release in the first place; it was bad. I think it was an attempt at an "arty" film that just didn't translate...
  • Borat - y'know, I used to judge just how bad a movie was by comparing it to "The Three Amigos" (probably the worst that I've ever seen); now there's a new benchmark...
  • The Prestige (Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale) - awfully good. Two magicians who take "one up-manship" to the extreme...
  • Facing the Giants - I had heard the hype about this one, though I really didn't know what to expect. I must say that I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It's really nice to see such a movie in today's world. Maybe with the success of this one there'll be more to come...
  • The Departed (Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon) - this was really good! Jack was just a little "too Jack", and toward the end I felt that there was "bullet in the head overload", but otherwise excellent...
  • Hollywoodland (Adrian Brody, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane) - enjoyed this, pretty good...
  • the Quiet (Elisha Cuthbert, Camilla Belle) - very mediocre, though I was able to bear it (after all, it did have Camilla Belle in it); I would imagine most people would fall asleep while watching it...
  • The Night Listener (Robin Williams) - this was pretty interesting - claimed to be based on a true story...
  • The Wicker Man (Nicolas Cage) - "What the...?" - this sucked so bad I could've used it to vacuum my floor...
  • The Illusionist (Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel) - NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' 'BOUT! I really enjoyed this; my kind of movie!...
  • Crank (Jason Statham) - a decent scenario for an action flick; not that you could tell by watching it - this was pretty bad...
  • All the King's Men - (Sean Penn, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet) - even though I wasn't paying close attention while this was playing (was doing family research on the 'net), it was still really good - a really good story with excellent acting - Sean Penn did an incredible job...
  • Snakes on a Plane (Samuel Jackson) - I said to myself "How bad can it be?..." - turns out, pretty bad...
  • Fearless (Jet Li) - I enjoy martial arts movies (well, good martial arts movies); this one was awfully good...
  • The Black Dahlia - pretty good; the old "Black Dahlia" story seemed to be more of a side-story...
  • Lady in the Water - another movie by M Night Shyamalan; I've enjoyed all of his movies; this guy has some imagination. Makes you wonder...
  • A Scanner Darkly (Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder) - strange. Based on a story by Phillip K Dick (Blade Runner); I might have to read the book...
  • Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell, John C Reilly) - loved this! Will Ferrell is hilarious - "I wanna go fast!"...
  • Pirates of the Caribbean - The Dead Man's Chest (Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley) - been waiting on this one for a while; it was awfully good. Now I'm waiting on the 3rd one...
  • Superman Returns - not bad; the resemblance between the actor in this one and Christopher Reeve is amazing; I thought the Lois Lane character was pretty badly mis-cast...
  • The Break-Up (Jennifer Anniston, Vince Vaughn) - alright - not great...
  • The DaVinci Code (Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatau) - I was really looking forward to this; naturally I was a little disappointed, 'course that's usually what becomes of watching a movie after you've read the book. It was still pretty good, though I would guess that anyone who watched it without having read the book probably thought it blowed...
  • Mission Impossible 3 (Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames) - awfully good!...
  • Dorm Daze 2 (Vida Guerra) - definitely not my usual fare - I just wanted to see how much Vida bared...
  • A Painted House (John Glenn) - just happened to notice this in the video store. I read the book (by John Grisham) recently - it was really good. The movie was alright; it followed the book very closely, but it just lacked something...
  • Final Destination 3 - not my usual type of movie, but I've enjoyed this series; pretty cool concept...
  •  March of the Penguins - I think this has been out a while now. I decided to give it a try after seeing some of the preview while browsing in the video store. It was really good - amazing and fascinating...
  • V for Vendetta (Natalie Portman) - interesting...
  • Inside Man (Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster) - this was alright - I thought the ending was kind of "unsatisfying"...
  • The Italian Job (Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron) - got bored, pulled this out from "the collection"...
  • Undisputed (Wesley Snipes, Ving Rhames) - ditto...
  • When A Stranger Calls (Camilla Belle) - rented this while "pickin's were slim"; not my usual fare, but after watching it I think I'm in love with Camilla Belle - she's gorgeous!...
  • A Good Woman (Scarlett Johansson, Helen Hunt) - this was good; also had some really funny one-liners about relationships, marriage, and life in general...
  • The Matador (Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear) - pretty good; had a really good soundtrack...
  • The End of the Spear - I enjoyed this too; said that it was based on a true story...
  • 16 Blocks (Bruce Willis, Mos Def) - this was awfully good; one of those rare movies that was actually "about something"...
  • Their Eyes Were Watching God (Halle Berry) - Okay, I'll admit it - the real reason I rented this was that I was captivated by the picture of Halle Berry on the cover; as it turned out, I really enjoyed it...
  • Match Point (Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers) - Okay, but I was expecting a lot more from this...
  • King Kong (the new one) - kind of "special-effects overload" for me; it was still pretty good, though a little over-done for my taste...
  • Cinderella Man (Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger) - now this is how a movie should be done!
  • Derailed (Jennifer Anniston, Clive Owen) - pretty good; had a nice "twist" at the end...
  • A History of Violence (Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ed Harris) - excellent! This was good!...
  • Transporter 2 - not quite as good as the first (probably would have been if it wasn't for that ridiculous flip-the-car-through-the-air-to-scrape-the-bomb-off-the-bottom-with-the-crane-hook scene...); still pretty good...
  • The Legend of Zorro (Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones) - really enjoyed this; I really enjoyed the first one, too...
  • Into the Blue (Paul Walker, Jessica Alba) - not my usual type of movie, but it was still pretty good (how bad could it be with Jessica Alba, anyway?)...
  • Mr & Ms Smith (Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt) - this took a while to "get going", but it was pretty good once it did...
  • Kingdom of Heaven (Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Irons)
  • War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning) - this was awfully good; some of Tom Cruise's best acting...
  • Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - it took quite a while, but it was worth the wait - definitely the best of the series by far; quite a story...
  • Sin City (Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba)
  • A Love Song for Bobby Long (John Travolta, Scarlett Johansson)
  • The Phantom of the Opera
  • Closer
