Another one of my interests is watching movies. I mostly watch dramas,
science fiction, and an occasional romance. I'll watch an action-adventure type
now and then, but in general I don't care for them. I like a movie with some
"substance" - something that makes you feel something...
Some
recent movies I've enjoyed (and some I haven't):
- Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
- The Soloist
- Reign Over Me
- Zodiac
- The Incredible Hulk
- The Number 23
- Blade Runner - the Final Cut - one of my all-time favorites!
- The Wrestler (Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei) - this was a good movie,
though it was pretty gritty...
- The International (Clive Owen, Naomi Watts) - thought this was
good. For some reason it seemed this movie contained incredibly precise
diction and enunciation (it just stood out for some reason)...
- Quantum of Solace - I've gotta say that Daniel Craig is making one
great Bond!
- The Constant Gardener (Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz) - really
good...
- The Spirit - how did this ever get released???
- Watchmen - I loved this! Amazing!
- Knowing (Nicolas Cage) - pretty good (I think it would have been
just as good without the "alien" angle)...
- Push - this was pretty cool; Camilla Belle was gorgeous -- as
always...
- The Notebook - I only just now watched this; I was expecting a lot
from it. I was a little disappointed; I thought it was good - the story
especially - but somehow the characters just seemed a little shallow to me...
- Lakeview Terrace (Samuel L Jackson) - this was good. Samuel L
Jackson played one bad-ass policeman!...
- Doubt (Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep) - a very good story
incredibly well enacted. It left me wondering at the end, though I guess that
may have been the point...
- Gran Torino (Clint Eastwood) - I figured this would be good. I was
a little surprised by the ending...
- Underworld - Rise of the Lycans - I really didn't expect much from
this... turns out I was surprised - it was the best effort of a 3rd movie in a
series in quite a while...
- Taken (Liam Neeson) - I enjoyed this...
- Pineapple Express (Seth Rogers, James Franco) - I had reservations
about this (I thought it would be either hilarious or pretty pitiful) - for me
it was pretty pitiful...
- Wanted (Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman) - I was pretty disappointed
in this...
-
Fireproof - I enjoyed this (knew I would). It did seem that the
spiritual message was somewhat watered down from the previous Sherwood movies.
- Seven Pounds (Will Smith, Rosario Dawson) - very powerful. One of
those stories that's only slowly revealed as the movie progresses (which is
always a little annoying to me); once you realize exactly what is going on it
really gets you...
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett) -
very interesting...
- Eagle Eye (Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monoghan, Billy Bob Thornton) -
exciting, action-packed... probably closer to reality than we'd like to think
about...
- The Day the Earth Stood Still (Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly) - I
thought this was awfully good - and quite timely. My one criticism - I thought
the whole "giant bio-creature turning into world-destructive beatles/whatever"
scenario wasn't such a good idea; other than that, it was great...
- Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman) - watched
this again (from the old vhs collection); it never seems to get old...
See some of the older movies I've enjoyed (and
some I haven't)...
Some
of my all-time favorite movies:
- The Matrix series - I can watch this thing over and over...
-
Somewhere In Time (Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour)
- Arthur (Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli)
- The Thorn Birds (Richard Chamberlain, Rachel Ward) - actually this
was a television mini-series, but you can buy it as a movie now...
- There's Something About Mary (Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz) - the
story of my life - kind of...
- Frankie & Johnny (Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer)
- Blade Runner - this movie was just cool...
- Dark City - kind of Blade Runner with Jennifer Connelly...
- Gone with the Wind - I never get tired of watching Gone with the
Wind...
Some of my favorite actors/actresses:
- Kevin Costner - yeah, his movies "tank" most of the time, but I really
like 'em
- Harrison Ford - a really natural actor
- Billy Bob Thornton - Sling Blade, A Monster's Ball - this guy is
incredible!
- Tom Hanks
- Michelle Pfeiffer - a classic beauty
- Jennifer Connelly - absolutely gorgeous, and a very under-rated actress as
far as I'm concerned
- Nicolas Cage - capable of some really great acting, when the
opportunity presents itself
-
James Franco - this guy played James Dean in a biography movie;
I think this guy might be James Dean - reincarnated...
-
James Dean - ever notice how stiff and unnatural the
old classic actors/actresses were? Not James Dean - this guy was gifted;
probably the greatest actor ever...
